What Do We Publish?

Lightbooks specialises in non-fiction book publishing in a range of fields, including law, the environment, women's issues, health (especially HIV/AIDS), economics, social sciences, linguistics, and research documentation. Other areas are always under exploration.

Mission Statement

We only publish books that 'make a difference', where there is new knowledge being imparted, and that, hopefully, will help to make the world, and Botswana in particular, a better place to live in. We often tackle difficult projects that larger publishers may not be interested in. We don't publish regurgitations for textbook prescriptions, revision books, and so on.

Our Goal

Our goal is also to bring Botswana to the world stage. We believe in selecting the best research, the best authors, and believe that we produce world quality books in terms of editorial, design, layout and manufacturing standards.

We aim, further, to maximise publishing innovativeness in order to publish worthwhile material. We endeavour to find the most feasible and viable ways of publishing a manuscript by overcoming constraints that other publishers are unwilling to.
 

Our Constraints

Publishing such work in a small market – a total population of just over two million - is a demanding and challenging task. We are constantly tackling short print runs and scarcity of human resources of all kinds.
 

What Else?

As well as publishing in own right, we 'package' books and booklets for NGOs, and other organisations and publishers. Sometimes, although we publish a book, we do not necessarily have the distribution rights but have sold the whole 'package'. In these cases we can put you in touch with the distributor.

We also do a limited amount of journal publishing and publish conference proceedings on behalf of NGOs and other associations or organisations.

Who Are We, Legally?

Lightbooks is the commercial imprint of Lentswe La Lesedi (Pty) Ltd., a book publishing company registered in Botswana. We have been in operation since 1992.
